Salt – Useful tips

  • In order cookies not to burn in the oven, some salt should be placed under forms.  
  • Eggs with cracked shells do not leak, if they are boiled in salted water.
  • Carpet can be easily cleaned, if you scatter several handfuls of salt on it and then hoover it.   
  • In order to ease beating of whites, add a bit of fine salt.
  • Old tea stains can be easily washed away with hot salted water.
  • In order sliced apples not to get dark, flood them with slightly salted water.
  • Pinch of salt prevent milk from souring.
  • Dirt from straw and rushy articles can be rubbed away with dry salt; after such cleaning they look like new.
  • Cut onion remains fresh, if you put it on a saucer sprinkled with salt.  
  • If the milk has burnt, add some salt and cool it. Taste will be improved.
  • If you put a piece of potato and some salt in the bread bin, bread will be less stale.  
  • Freshness of a raw egg can be checked as follows: dissolve tablespoon of salt in the glass of water, fresh egg will touch bottom in such solution, not fresh egg will float above, while off egg will be in the middle of the glass.  
  • Ironing marks can be eliminated by moistening with cold water and sprinkling a lot of salt. In 20 minutes salt shall be shaken off and the article should be rinsed.   
  • Even old rust and ink stains on linen can be eliminated with the help of salt dissolved in the lemon juice. Later they should be exposed to the sunlight. After the first treatment stains will lose color, after multiple treatments they will finally disappear.  
  • In order candle to burn longer, dip it into previously salted water.  
  • If you bake salt in a new pig iron frying pan, food will not burn.
  • If you cannot wash the ashtray, rub it with salt and then rinse it with cold water.
  • Blunt knife is easier to sharpen, if you dip its blade in salted water.
  • Salt dissolved in ammonium chloride perfectly removes fatty stains even on silk fabrics. Salt mixed with vinegar perfectly cleans red and yellow copper.
  • In order to make cloudy oil transparent, add teaspoon of salt per liter of oil. In three days pour oil in another bottle.
  • Salt solution will be great home remedy for mild cold. Gargles will not only treat sore throat, but will also make throat  less amenable to colds and facilitate sputum discharge.
  • Even the most severe cold will be treated, if you sniff warm salted water every two hours.   
  • Salt and water gruel will remove pain and prevent swelling in the case of the bites of bees or wasps.
